It all started many years ago. What started as a tip and intuition driven trade now has transformed into something scientific and successful. Shankar and Venkat with over 2 decades of stock broking and industry experience respectively,got together and a roller coaster ride began. Many trading system were tried. Some trades successful; some biting the dust. However each trade created euphoria, tense moments, disappointment, joy and many emotions which not only strengthened the relationship, but allowed a deeper understanding of each other's strength. While this team always believed systematic trading will yield good results, spontaneous decisions which were not part of the plan were entered into. Typically these kinds of trades started off favorably, but soon went against us. Since it was not part of the originally planned script, exit strategies were not in place. The P&L took a negative turn and we were left to emotions to make the next call on the trades. Naturally more grief followed. Our minds were not in a position to accept the losses and this led us to speculate more on wishful thinking. Yes, we expected the trade to bounce back. 'Hope' took the front seat. However reality had something else to offer. The trades dipped further into the red. Now it is between the devil and the deep sea. Should we wait some more or cut losses when it is more manageable? This emotional trades gave us pain and by the time we cut positions, we were thinking how to recover this. How to play catchup. Many such trades gave us a clear wisdom of what harsh realities are. If one has to overcome this and be successful, we realized that we should not only have a good trading system, not only scientific and time tested but also one that aids execution. Over a period of time, this strengthened us and gave us the needed trading discipline. Apart from this, we also saw how an effective, orchestrated team work will give nothing but success. Thus Trade Algorithms was born in the year 2008 (Yes, the year in which the market got pounded to earth). Ever since there is no looking back.
